Here is a description of this summer’s camps:

Week One:  Harry Potter, Fourth Year                                                     June 29-July 3, 2020

Don’t be a Muggle—enter Hogwarts for our Fourth Year! After creating our school essentials such as magic wands and spell books at Diagon Alley, we will be sorted into houses and compete in Quidditch.  Our “coursework” will include all of the magical arts, as well as some training for the Triwizard Tournament. We end our camp with a banquet, complete with pumpkin juice and butter beer. Enroll in Hogwarts for a week of art, magic, and fun!

Week Two:  Born in the USA                                                                                   July 6-10, 2020

Celebrate America’s birthday with a week-long exploration of American artistic genius!  We’ll look at many American art visionaries from Native Americans to modern artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Alexander Calder, and Romare Bearden. We will even look at architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright. We will draw, paint, collage, and sculpt in this week inspired by innovative American artists. Come discover what’s in you that could inspire the next generation!

Week Three:  Art and the Environment                                                   July 13-17, 2020

Bottle caps? Sticks? Cabbage? Are they art? We’ll find out this week as we learn how artists use their imagination to transform everyday objects (and even trash!) into art.  Museums all over the world have sculptures, paintings, and mosaics made of stuff that was just lying around until an artist saw something new. We’ll discover how trash becomes treasure; how artists like Andy Goldsworthy make art out of nature; and how art can celebrate and protect our environment.

Week Four:  Drawing                                                                                  July 20-24, 2020

Do you want to be better at drawing?  Join Ms. Tio and you will draw better what you see in real life and get practice with every kind of drawing, from shading with charcoal to painting with watercolor pencils and oil pastels.  We’ll bring our drawing skills to printmaking projects and painting projects, too! (After care will only be available Monday through Thursday of this week, and will cost $60.)
