Please also send four weeks before camp your child’s Emergency Contacts, Health, Media and Walking Field Trip Forms (Summer 2018) and the remaining $325 camp fee. Here is a description of this summer’s camps:
Week One, June 25-29, 2018: Art and Nature
We walk out in nature every day, but we often overlook just how exciting it is. All that will change this week as we use art to explore new ways to observe all of the crazy, fantastic, beautiful and amazing things around us! We’ll get up close with creatures small and large, through drawing, painting, and sculpting. We’ll expand our horizons with different ways to paint and draw landscapes. We’ll even reach for the stars and try our hand at creating cool cosmic images of outer space!
Week Two, July 2-6, 2018: Harry Potter, Second Year
Leave the Muggle world behind and enter Hogwarts for your Second Year. We begin by visiting Diagon Alley to get our school essentials such as magic wands and spell books. After being sorted into houses, we will hone our Quidditch skills. Our “coursework” will include all of the magical arts: divination, spells, care of magical creatures, and potions. We end our camp with a banquet, complete with pumpkin juice and butter beer. Enroll in Hogwarts for a week of art, magic, and fun! Camp will be held on July 4th.
Week Three, July 9-13, 2018: Art of Italy
Let’s immerse ourselves in the amazing art and culture of Italy! Dating back thousands of years, our Italian friends have established traditions in all of the arts. Our exploration will start with the ancient glass and stone mosaics of Pompeii and Venice and we’ll look at the architecture of the ancient Romans. Our journey to the Renaissance studios of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo will inspire us to create our own sculptures and paintings. It is well known that Italy’s great artisans flourished in the arts of mask-making and marbling papers and we will too!
Week Four, July 23-27, 2018: Art of Mexico
We don’t have to travel far to experience some of the most incredible and intriguing art ever made…just head south to our neighbors in Mexico! Let’s visit the ancient Maya and Aztec people and experience their pyramids, weavings, codex books, and sculptures. Campers will sculpt with tin, clay, and papier mache, like the great artisans from Oaxaca and learn about Mexico’s fabulous Day of the Dead celebrations. The great Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera will be our starting point for numerous painting projects. From the past to the present, we will create art informed by the rich history of Mexico!
Director and Instructor.
