Camp will be held in the heart of Del Ray at the Del Ray United Methodist Church, 100 E. Windsor Avenue, in Room 202. Here is a description of this summer’s camps:
FULL! Week One, June 26-30, 2017: Drawing Academy
Join Ms. Tio for a week of “Drawing Academy.” We will learn to use many different techniques to help us become the best artists we can be. We’ll explore different kinds of pencils and charcoal, pens and paints then we will use our awesome skills in printmaking and zentangles, regular and manga cartoons, and many other great projects!
Week Two, July 3-7, 2017: Harry Potter and Hogwarts School of Magic and Wizardry
Leave the muggle world behind and enter Hogwarts. We will visit Diagon Alley to get our magic wands and other school essentials. We’ll play quidditch (after we are sorted into houses, of course!). We will make chocolate frogs, create our favorite wizard cards, and learn to care for magical creatures. We will study all of the magical arts, such as divination, spells, and magic potions and end our camp with a banquet, complete with pumpkin juice and butter beer. Enroll in Hogwarts for a week of art, magic, and fun! Camp will be held on July 4th.
Week Three, July 10-14, 2017: Art of Architecture
New projects, new architects! Want to learn to paint on canvases as big as houses or make sculptures as big as city blocks? That’s what architects do every day! This week it’s our turn. We’ll explore how and why architects design the works of art we live and work in, and then design, paint, and build ourselves. We will be joined by Maury and Lyles-Crouch science teacher extraordinaire, Mr. R (Jason Rutchauskas), who will lead us through fun experiments that will help us test, design, and build better buildings and bridges.
FULL! Week Four, July 31-August 4, 2017: French Impressions of Art: Painting, Drawing and Sculpture
We’ll be impressed by the likes of Monet, Cezanne, Degas, and other greats of French Impressionism and their contemporaries like Van Gogh (with and without his ear). We’ll draw and paint in plein air, bring the ordinary to life, and learn how to capture movement in 2D and 3D. Join Ms. Tio as we travel “artistically” to France and soak in the beauty of French art and culture.
