DSCN4878FULL! Session One (June 29 – July 3): Painting à la Art – Do you love to paint? This is the camp for you. We will look at many great painters from Da Vinci to Jackson Pollock and learn from their techniques and experiments. We will see artists make paint from all different kinds of materials from acrylics and watercolors to berries and mud. We’ll also try just about every way to apply paint from brushes to splattering. Join us and see how creative you can be!

DSCN9654FULL! Session Two (July 6 – July 10): Art from around the World – Artists just don’t paint pictures – we tell stories. We’ll travel around the world to see how artists from other places have told us their stories through art. From cave paintings to Greek vases to the Sistine Chapel to portraits and murals, art always can help us tell a story. Come join us this week and tell your own stories through drawing, painting, sculpting, ceramics, mosaics, and much more!

DSCN3191FULL! Session Three (July 13 – July 17): The Art of Architecture – Want to learn to paint on canvases as big as houses or make sculptures that are as big as city blocks? That’s what architects do every day! This week it’s our turn. We’ll explore how and why architects design the works of art we live and work in, and then we’re going to draw, design, paint, and build, build, build!

DSCN1227Session Four (July 20 – July 24): Modern Art – Are you one of those young artists who doesn’t like to paint between the lines? Then this week is for you! We’ll paint, draw, and sculpt like Van Gogh, Picasso, Warhol, Escher and other artists who saw the world a little differently and refused to do things the way they had always been done.

Field Trips. We’ll take at least one field trip each week to find inspiration in the world around us and to see some of the amazing art that we have right in our own backyard. The past two summers our field trips included exploring the National Gallery of Art, the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden, the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the Freer Gallery of Art, and the Museum of the Americas; drawing in plein air at River Farm.

End-of-Camp Gallery Celebration. Each session will culminate on Friday afternoon with a celebration of the children’s art and a show for the children to display and share their work. This camp is for children who love to create!

DSCN0176Director and Instructor. Luisa Tio will lead each session.
