Here is a description of this summer’s camps:

Harry Potter, June 19-23, 8:30 am to 12:30 (4 hours) outdoors in Del Ray, $315

Leave the muggle world behind and enter Hogwarts!  We will visit Diagon Alley to get our magic wands and other school essentials. We’ll play Quidditch (after we are sorted into houses, of course). We will study all of the magical arts, such as divination, spells, and magic potions and end our camp with a banquet, complete with pumpkin juice and butter beer. Enroll in Hogwarts for a week of art, magic, and fun! Camp takes place outdoors in Del Ray, Alexandria.

Painting, June 26-30, 2023, 8:30-2:30 (6 hours), camp will be located at Del Ray United Methodist Church, 100 E. Windsor Avenue, 3rd Floor, $415.

LATEST STORIES

Do you love to paint? This is the camp for you! We will look at many great painters from Da Vinci to Jackson Pollock and learn from their techniques and experiments. We will see artists make paint from all different kinds of materials from acrylics and watercolors to berries and mud. We’ll explore different subjects like portraits to landscape to abstraction. We’ll also try just about every way to apply paint from brushes to splattering to squeegees.

American Genius, July 3-7, 2023 (Camp will be held on July 4), 8:30-2:30 (6 hours), camp will be located at Del Ray United Methodist Church, 100 E. Windsor Avenue, 3rd Floor, $415.

“Hey yo, I’m just like my country
I’m young, scrappy and hungry
And I’m not throwin’ away my shot…”

Don’t throw away your shot to explore all of the young, scrappy and hungry artists that have defined American art!  (Thank you, Lin-Manuel Miranda.) We will make art inspired by American artists, starting with Native American-inspired pottery and weaving. We will explore many American traditions, like quilting and basketweaving; paintings inspired by artists like Georgia O’Keeffe, Winslow Homer, and Kehinde Wiley; and learn about glassmaker Dale Chihuly.  Join Ms. Tio for a week of hands-on fun and artmaking!
