Here is a description of this summer’s camps:

Week One, June 24-29, 2019: Drawing

Drawing is the foundation of all art, and this week we will experiment with every kind of drawing, from shading with charcoal, to painting with watercolor pencils and oil pastels. We’ll bring our drawing skills in printmaking projects, and express ourselves in cartoons.
Camp will be at Del Ray United Methodist Church in Lunceford Hall.

Week Two, July 1-5, 2019: Harry Potter, Third Year

Leave the Muggle world behind and enter Hogwarts for our Third Year. We begin by creating our school essentials such as magic wands and spell books at Diagon Alley. After being sorted into houses, we will hone our Quidditch skills. Our “coursework” will include all of the magical arts: divination, spells, care of magical creatures, and potions. We end our camp with a banquet, complete with pumpkin juice and butter beer. Enroll in Hogwarts for a week of art, magic, and fun! Camp will be held at Del Ray United Methodist Church, Room 202/204, 100 East Windsor Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301. Camp will be held on July 4th.

Week Three, July 8-12, 2019: Sculpture

We know the world isn’t flat, so why should art be? We’ll get inspired by artists who have gotten up off the canvas to use clay, wood, wire, natural objects and stuff they just found lying around to bring their art into the third dimension. Come explore what adding another dimension can do to your art! Camp will be held at Del Ray United Methodist Church, Room 202/204, 100 East Windsor Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301.

Week Four, August 5-9, 2019: Dutch Art

This week, we will explore the huge impact the tiny country of the Netherlands has had on the art world. We will paint, inspired by the light of Vermeer; we will experiment with printmaking like the master Rembrandt; we will go modern like Mondrian; and push our drawing skills and our imagination like M.S. Escher. Camp will be held at Del Ray United Methodist Church, Room 202/204, 100 East Windsor Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301.
